New article by Dr. Hans-Joachim Jacob in the European Coatings Journal.

Costs play an important role in paint and varnish production, and titanium dioxide (TiO2) is one major cost driver.

Inline dispersing, combined with the vacuum expansion method, reduces the quantity of titanium dioxide required, thereby reducing production costs. One manufacturer calculated that roughly 25 to 40% of its production costs went to TiO2, depending on the application.

The new process solves this problem. It requires 70 to 90 % less energy for dispersion, and up to 95 % less time, specifically for titanium dioxide dispersion. In addition, dispersing agents can be dosed for maximum effect using the method.
