Contactless support in real-time: ystral introduces new digital service concept with YSTRAL EYE

Developed during the Corona Lockdown, made for the digital world of tomorrow: With the Remote Solutions YSTRAL EYE, ystral is breaking new ground in customer service.

Ballrechten-Dottingen / Germany. With YSTRAL EYE Remote Solutions, the machine and plant manufacturer ystral has developed a comprehensive service concept, enabling numerous digital services, which so far often required the customer’s presence at ystral’s premises, or vice versa. ystral, the specialist for mixing and dispersion technology, can still comprehensively support its customers on site by means of YSTRAL EYE when a physical presence is not an option, i.e., in case of travel or contact restrictions or if quick support is required. The application options of YSTRAL EYE include trials, factory and site acceptance tests, maintenance and repair tasks, but also troubleshooting, training as well as continuous production support.

Augmented and mixed reality-based service concept

The YSTRAL EYE service concept is based on AR or MR (Augmented and Mixed Reality) technology, in which the real video image is augmented by additional information.

During a service assignment, all persons involved share the technician’s field of vision on the machine, and can interact with each other via language or chat, and exchange documents. This way, ystral customers can follow the assignment of an ystral technician from afar for example, or an ystral employee supports customers remotely during maintenance or repair tasks, e.g., with explanatory markings directly in the live image. Another application scenario is the support of an ystral technician during his assignment at the customer’s premises by an ystral specialist from afar.

As part of the new YSTRAL EYE service concept, mixed reality technology can also be used to “project” CAD models into real space. This enables ystral to break new ground in design meetings in its cooperation with customers.

Optimal service experience with AR data glasses

YSTRAL EYE can be used with any common smart device such as a smartphone or tablet. However, for an optimal on-site service experience, ystral recommends the use of YSTRAL EYE Smartglasses, AR data glasses suitable for use in cleanroom and ATEX environments. With YSTRAL EYE Smartglasses, the employees at the machine have both hands free and can thus act undisturbed while all relevant information is available to them on the display.

With regard to commissioning a system with YSTRAL EYE smartglasses, Johannes Stücklin, Process and Application Engineer at ystral, explains: “When the customer starts up the system, I supervise this process remotely. I will guide the customer through the process from his perspective. I can see exactly what’s happening with the system and can intervene directly if necessary. This way, the customer is fully involved in commissioning the system on the one hand, and on the other, he is supported through my remote supervision.”

"Surprised and delighted at how well this technology works"

Among the first companies to have already used YSTRAL EYE to conduct trials is Australian paint and coatings manufacturer Haymes Paint: "The combination of video conferencing at our facility and smartglasses at ystral has worked very well for us," reports Jonathon Allen, Technical & Development Manager at Haymes Paint. "We were very pleased with the trial process and the flow of communication. We were surprised and pleased to see how well this technology worked and that this way a greater number of our staff could be present at the trials."
